Trips & Visits
Trip to RAF Museum - Friday 18 February 2005
A small number of members of the squadron made a half term visit to
the Royal Air Force Museum at Hendon on Friday the 18th February. Travelling
in Mr Lingham’s car, the latter part of the journey came to resemble
a Lancaster on the run in on a bombing mission, with navigational instructions
coming from the back seat such as “two miles to next turning point,
roundabout, take the third exit”, “five miles straight ahead,
then bear left under bridge”. Strangely enough we got there in
good time, just a couple of minutes after opening. Well done Nav.
On arrival at the Museum it was discovered that the week had been designated ‘Half
Term Helicopter’ and that every day various helicopters of all
types had been flying in, and then been available for the public to look
round. 1063’s luck being what it usually is, Friday morning’s
visits had been cancelled due to the weather conditions. However, all
was not lost, as a Metropolitan Police helicopter made a visit during
the afternoon. Members of the Squadron party narrowly avoided getting
their collars felt by the lady police officer crew member, when the suggestion
was made that the tail rotor might make a good souvenir for the Squadron
HQ! In the mean-time, a good look around the museum was had by all.
At one point a very smart and attractive young blonde had to be rescued
from the lascivious advances of Cadet Sellers (she was too old for him,
too young for me). However, it turned out that he had met her before,
when she was a Corporal Cadet with one of the Medway Squadrons. She was
on a visit to the Museum as part of her RAF Recruits course at RAF Halton.
All in all a good day, spoiled only by the extended journey home due
to the traffic.
Mr Lingham, C.I.
